Educational Qualification:

  • General Stream: Master’s Degree in any discipline, Bachelor's Degree in Law LLB, Bachelor Degree in Engineering from a recognized university, Charted Accountant CA /CS and Cost Accountant.

  • Legal Stream: Aspirants should have Bachelor’s Degree in Law from a recognized university.

  • Information Technology Stream: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electricals / Electronics / Electronics and Communication /Information Technology / Computer Science) OR Masters in Computers Application OR Bachelor's Degree in any discipline with a postgraduate qualification (minimum 2 years duration) in computers / Information Technology.

  • Engineering (Civil) Stream: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university/institute.

  • Engineering (Electrical) Stream: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university/institute.

  • Research: Master's degree in Statistics / Economics/ Commerce / Business Admistration (Finance) / Econometrics from a recognized University / Institute.

  • Official Language: Master's degree in Hindi with English as one of the subjects at Bachelor's Degree level or Master's degree level

Payment Mode: Pay The Examination Fee By Debit Card, Credit Card, Net Banking Fee Mode Only.

  • Age relaxation is applicable as per rules

Pay Scale: Selected candidates will get Rs. 28,150 – 55,600/- from the organization.

Selection through SEBI Grade A exam is done in three phases:

  • Phase I – Online exam 

  • Phase-II – Online exam consisting of three papers

  • Interview

Phase 1: Online Exam Pattern

The online examination is of two hours duration consisting of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). The exam pattern is different for different posts. Check out the tables given below:

Paper 1:  All Streams:  Multiple choice questions on the subjects viz.
1. General Awareness (including some questions related to  Financial  Sector of easy to moderate difficulty level),
2. English   Language,
3. Quantitative Aptitude
4.Test of Reasoning.For General and Research Department

Total 100marks

Total duration: 60 minutes

Cut Off: 30 %

Paper 2:

A. General Stream:
Multiple choice questions on subjects Commerce, Accountancy, Management, Finance, Costing, Companies Act and Economics.

Total: 100 marks 

Total duration: 40 minutes

Cut Off: 40 %

B. Legal, Information Technology, Engineering Stream (Civil & Electrical), Official Language stream: Multiple choice questions on Specializedsubject related to the stream.

C. Research Stream:-
Multiple choice questions on subjects   Economics,   Econometrics,   Statistics, Finance, and Commerce.


1. Aggregate Cut Off required - 40%

2. 1/4 negative marks

3. No sectional cutoff

Phase-II – Online Exam Pattern

Paper 1- All streams: English (Descriptive Test) to test the drafting skills - Maximum Marks -100, Duration 60 Minutes, Cut off - 30 %

Paper 2- 

A. General Stream: Multiple choice questions on subjects Commerce, Accountancy, Management,  Finance,  Costing,  Companies Act and Economics. - Maximum Marks -100, Duration 60 Minutes, Cut off - 40 %

B. Legal, Engineering Stream (Civil & Electrical) and Official Language stream: Multiple choice questions on   Specializedsubject related to the stream. Maximum Marks -100, Duration 60 Minutes, Cut off - 40 %

C. Research Stream:- Multiple choice questions on subjects     Economics,     Econometrics, Statistics, Finance, and Commerce.


1. Aggregate Cut Off required - 40%

2. 1/4 negative marks

3. A separate sectional cutoff in each paper is required along with aggregate cut off of 40% in Phase II

4. Weightage for the interview phase would be 1/3rd of paper 1 and 2/3rd for paper 2.

SEBI Grade A Exam Syllabus 2018

SEBI doesn’t provide any specific syllabus for the online exam. Candidates are accessed on various abilities such as Quantitative Aptitude, reasoning skills, understanding of English language, general awareness, and professional knowledge. So, topics related to these sections cover the SEBI Grade A exam syllabus.


Candidates who qualify the Phase I and Phase II examinations are shortlisted for the Interview phase. The list of shortlisted candidates is released on SEBI’s official website, The dates will be intimated in the interview letter.

For final selection, Phase II weightage would be 85% and 15% of the interview phase.
